Easy web design for those without skills Date: Sep 14 2021
Summary: For beginner to intermediate web design, this is an easy way to create quick templates and get webpages up and running at very low cost.
Positive: WordPress is the perfect entry to website designers that don't have full access to what it takes to design modern websites. Plug and play and wysiwyg design makes for simple pages for those not in the know.
Negative: As with anything WYSIWYG, there are a lot of bells and whistles left out unless you know what you're doing. It takes trained users to get the full use of the product.

Great for self-hosted blogging Date: May 15 2021
Summary: If you want to blog, get your own server and self-host Wordpress. It does not get any better in terms of base system reliability, extensibility through add-ons and community. A browser extension for blog posting would be great. Be aware of self-host hacking attempts. Install security add-ons first!
Positive: -functionality is fantastic. with plenty of add-ons, it's possible to tune it to your specific needs
-great, active community
-stable base software (watch out for add-ons, backup before!)
-full functionality for free (if self-hosted)
-great mobile app for mobile postingNegative: -can become a performance hog (if self-hosted and you install too many add-ons)

-add-on quality control should be better.
-no external blog editors available (or browser extensions) -

One of the old greats of blogging Date: Nov 03 2020
Summary: I've used Wordpress on and off for years, for a number of different purposes, both professionally and for personal projects. I would say it's most similar to Blogger, and Medium if you squint, but far more customizable. It's a great place to get out lengthy, in depth information to your audience and get more meaningful engagement via longer conversations and would likely appealing to an older demographic. These days, unless there's a major shift in how younger people are using the net, I can't see it being a huge drawn for the under 25 crowd and Wordpress having been around a long time really shows when you're dealing with it to get everything you want situated. There's a big learning curve if you're just getting into this thing, but it may be pretty easy to use if you've used sites like Blogger or Livejournal back in the day. For the right audience and right type of project, it's still one of the best out there.
Positive: One of the things that made Wordpress stand out from other blogger services when blogging started really getting big was the just the sheer amount of options and ways you could customize Wordpress. It's still highly customizable to this day. Blogging is simple and easy, and if you just want it for a personal account without any of the bells and whistles, it'll only take you a few minutes to get everything up and running. For business, you'll need to put more work into getting how you want to look, but you most certainly can. As more businesses have focused on short form interaction with customers, there are advantages to having more in depth, lengthy content and conversations with your audience and Wordpress will definitely get you the ability to do that, if that's what you're seeking. You can easily link your shop and other relevant sites, such as your Instagram or Twitter and put those links wherever you want them.
Negative: Unlike many of the template designs out there, and while you certainly can find plenty of templates for Wordpress, you'll still be putting in more effort than other places to get everything in order. Some may find blogging content doesn't get them the hits that easier to use platforms like Instagram might and some aspects of the back end of Wordpress are a bit dated. There's a pretty steep learning curve for those who aren't used to using blogging services like this and for customizing.

Great for amateurs and pros, but hard if you're in the middle Date: Feb 17 2023
Summary: Highly recommended for beginners or experts, but found that I was too advanced to be happy inside the theme boxes, and not advanced enough to take advantage of buried features. I've since switched to more conventional site-design software.
Positive: Huge selections of free and premium themes.
Extensive library of documentation.
Simple to get up and running by just changing text and images.Negative: Customizability varies with themes, and no size fits all.

Documentation does not apply to all themes, so library is hit or miss.
Templates difficult to modify for working "outside of the box".
User interface is geared to the novice, making it difficult to customize. -

Simplifies web dev, but also leaves much to be desired Date: May 30 2021
Summary: Wordpress makes website making more accessible for more people but sometimes underdelivers on its promises.
Positive: Wordpress powers something like half of the websites in the world, so there's lots of plugins and themes to choose from. It has a "What you see if what you get" editor, which makes it possible for people with little front-end development experience to get up and running.
Negative: The what you see is what you get editor doesn't always perform as expected. For example, it's supposed to support LaTeX rendering. But it doesn't, not out of the box even though its documentation says it should. And it's not possible for multiple users to edit a post at the same time - you need to switch off between users, which is a pain.

Not for beginners Date: May 02 2021
Summary: This is a great tool for those in web design/programming, or for businesses with in house tech capabilities or a budget to outsource. This is not for sole proprietors or small businesses withOUT inherent technical capabilities in house/in budget.
Positive: The interface is relatively straightforward. There are certainly a lot of options and capabilities within the tool.
Negative: Wordpress is touted as the best website tool, which offers amazing flexibility and capability. However, for a small business without an IT person/team, wordpress does not fulfill this promise. The learning curve is too high for a casual or beginner user.
