    TrueNAS

    Date: Jun 05 2023

Summary: Used core at home and at work for years, was super excited about scale and was an earlier adopter. It's awesome to have this powerful of a service hosted on my own hardware.

Positive: There are a lot of things to love, they make many things that were "possible" in other softwares easy to access and configure, with fairly idiot proof defaults.

Negative: Scale rolled out with to many bugs, and the official apps are to limited in availability, the answer seemed to be true charts as a semi affiliated project, but they keep breaking their base image.

    TrueNAS Scale

    Date: Jun 04 2023

Summary: Good overall. Very robust and not so difficult to configure and use. You have to familiarize with the ZFS file system, which is very different to the usual ones, but once you understand the basics it is very powerful.

Positive: Very powerful and very easy to install.
It gives professional capabilities even for a home do it yourself system even with cheap or old hardware elements.

Negative: It lacks a native way for controlling the fans of the system.
It would be great to have an complete fan and temperature controlling system in the dashboard.
For a datacenter is not so important, but for small offices, noise of the fans is relevant.

    TrueNAS - Best NAS OS

    Date: Jun 04 2023

Summary: I have been using TrueNAS for a few years now since TrueNAS Core, I have had no issues with it and the migration from Core to Scale was seamless.

Positive: Easy to use the GUI/Dashboard, super reliable product, TrueNAS Scale works so well with integrating the docker containers, can run on older equipment.

Overall, it is an excellent product.

Negative: The only thing I would like to see is having more docker apps available built from the IX team.

    Best of the best

    Date: Jun 03 2023

Summary: Overall TrueNAS is the best NAS/SAN software that I have used over the years and I have tried several. I would go TrueNAS over anything else all day.

Positive: I love everything there is about TrueNAS and have been a long standing user for several users going back to the FreeNAS days and beyond.

Negative: One of the biggest cons I have it not a TrueNAS issue but rather a FreeBSD issue in 13. When using VLANs with Jails or VM's, my 10G fiber is useless unless you disable HW offloading on the nic. FreeBSD needs a fix and thus would fix TrueNAS!

    Amazing

    Date: Jun 03 2023

Summary: Amazing product I just used it on an old PC that I use as a server for my home, it's free easy to get into and plenty of help online with this.

Looking forward to seeing what it becomes.

    Positive: (Truenas Scale).
    Docker / K3s.
    Easy to setup and configure.
    Good NAS for home.
Runs on most hardware like old PCs.
Fast as I'm using old HDDs in it and works well.

    Negative: (Truenas Scale)
    Still getting better
VMs are not that good, but its a NAS.
Allowing Rancher Support would be good to let you do more with K3

Positive: Easy to setup, lots of support, big user community to get help from and instructional you tube videos, works with very wide range of technology.

    Pretty darn easy

    Date: Jun 02 2023

Summary: I'll say as a relative newbie to setting up a NAS I was a bit overwhelmed at first with all the options, but a bit of education allowed me to slim things down and make it manageable. Once I got the basics of the NAS working with my Mac, I expanded it to the PCs and Linux boxes... It was a fairly heavy learning experience but well worth the effort.

Positive: After reviewing a few youtube videos I was able to spin up my new NAS with TrueNAS very easily. In the house I have Macs, PCs and a Linux server and I got them all to access the TrueNAS install quite easily. I was able to connect it to Backblaze B2 storage so all of my household computer back up via the NAS now... that gives us both local backup plus off-site.

Negative: I'd say the trickiest thing for me was choosing between the two TrueNAS versions. I initially went with 'Scale' but after a while determined that for my use case the older TrueNAS Core was a better fit. So I had to re-install everything, but that was a fairly minor hiccup.

The one and only NAS you will ever need.

    Date: Jun 01 2023

Summary: I have been using this since the mid 2000's, it is by far one of the best platforms for NAS software in the market. It can do basically anything you want. They only limitation is what hardware you use.

Positive: Where to start? Want built in containers to run apps like plex or a VPN? They got you covered. Just want a plain ol' NAS to store all your files? They got that covered six ways to Sunday.

Negative: TrueNAS can be a little complicated to setup compared to others like Synology but it is MUCH more powerful.

    Best Home-brew NAS

    Date: Jun 01 2023

Summary: Painless and easy to setup, administer and use! Love how simple getting SMB, NFS and iSCSI up and running was.

Positive: Using SCALE in a Proxmox VM - it just works. Love the flexibility to add apps and the Debian base. Makes ZFS child-proof!

Negative: Some difficulty with pass-through, but that was more of a PM/hp problem.

    Great Storage System

    Date: Jun 01 2023

Summary: Overall, using ZFS has been great and I currently use and manage several TrueNAS servers for varying purposes including file shares and as an iSCSI datastore for a VMware cluster.

Positive: TrueNAS is an excellent system for a central storage server. It can serve as both a file server and central virtualization storage all running on the underlying ZFS filesystem. Great performance and reliability. Web interface makes management of ZFS far simpler than configuring it through a cli.

Negative: Expanding storage can be a little costly with ZFS due to the need to add groups of disk matching the existing configuration at once and not individual disks, but that is a limitation of ZFS and not TrueNAS.

    TrueNAS and TrueNAS Scale

    Date: Jun 01 2023

Summary: Needed to evolve as i had a 10 years old solution. I had several possibility and it turns out that TrueNAS was arriving to a good stable state. i did test it and compare with other solution. I finally migrated to TrueNAS and was excited for scale. I migrated to scale not long ago. Overall great product that i m sure will continue to improve.

    Positive: TrueNAS: very mature.

TrueNAS scale: getting closer to TrueNAS maturity with a lot more to offer.

    Ready for Hybrid and multi-cloud

Negative: Would no recommend it outside of IT world for people who do not want to pay the price to learn to manage TrueNAS.

Positive: The starting price can’t be beaten.

I also appreciated the product's user-friendliness. It was easy to set up and navigate, which made the overall experience smooth and hassle-free. It didn't require extensive learning or complicated instructions, allowing me to quickly adapt to its functionality.

In terms of quality, the product seemed well-made. It appeared to be sturdy and durable, suggesting that it could withstand regular use without any major issues. While I didn't encounter any immediate flaws or defects, only time will tell how it holds up in the long run.

Although I can't go into great detail, the product did leave a positive impression. Its features and design seemed to cater to the needs of users, and it was clear that some thought had been put into its development. It provided a satisfactory experience, and I believe it offers decent value for the price.

While I can't delve into specific aspects or standout features, I must emphasize that the overall experience was good. It didn't disappoint, and I would consider recommending it to others based on my positive encounter. However, I encourage potential buyers to explore more detailed reviews or seek additional information to make an informed decision that aligns with their specific requirements

Positive: Wow, I must say that this product has exceeded my expectations in every way possible. From the moment I started using it, I was blown away by its impeccable quality. It's clear that a lot of attention has been given to its construction, as it feels solid and well-made. I couldn't find any flaws or defects, which is a testament to its excellent craftsmanship.

When it comes to performance, this product truly shines. It effortlessly delivers on its promises and consistently delivers outstanding results. Whether I'm using it for work or leisure, it never fails to impress me with its efficiency and effectiveness. The features it offers are simply remarkable. I'm particularly impressed by the innovative technology incorporated into its design, which enhances its overall functionality and usability.

Speaking of design, this product is a visual delight. Its sleek and modern appearance adds a touch of sophistication, making it a pleasure to use and display. The attention to detail is evident, from the carefully chosen color palette to the intuitive user interface. It's clear that the designers have put a lot of thought into creating a product that not only performs exceptionally but also looks fantastic.

Durability is another aspect that sets this product apart. I've put it through its paces, and it has effortlessly withstood the test of time. It's built to last, and I have no doubt that it will continue to serve me well for years to come.

One of the things I appreciate most about this product is its user-friendliness. Setting it up was a breeze, and the intuitive controls make it incredibly easy to operate. In conclusion, when I say 'everything about the product is good,' I truly mean it. This product has left no stone unturned in delivering a top-notch experience. It's a game-changer, and I highly recommend it to anyone in need of a reliable, high-quality, and feature-packed solution.

Negative: Well, where do I start with this product's cons? Let's just say it has a sense of humor—unfortunately, not intentionally. First off, it seems to have a mind of its own. It enjoys randomly deciding to take breaks or go on vacation when you need it the most. It's like having a rebellious teenager trapped inside a machine!

Secondly, this product has a knack for hiding in plain sight. It's like it mastered the art of camouflage. Every time I need it, it magically disappears into thin air, leaving me scratching my head and wondering if I'm being pranked by an invisible gnome.

Oh, and did I mention its uncanny ability to attract dust and crumbs? It's like it has a magnetic field that only attracts the tiniest particles in the universe. So, not only do you get a product, but you also get an impromptu dust and crumb collector. Who wouldn't want that?

And let's not forget the excitement it brings with its surprise sound effects. You'll never know when it'll decide to emit a loud, perplexing noise that startles not only you but your neighbors, pets, and probably a few birds outside. It's like having a personal sound effects machine that only knows one setting: maximum volume.

But hey, at least this product keeps you on your toes. It adds an element of surprise and adventure to your daily life. You never know what it's going to do next. It's like living with a mischievous, eccentric roommate who always keeps you guessing.

So, if you're up for an unpredictable, disappearing, crumb-loving, noise-making companion, this product might just be the one for you. Just be prepared for a wild and wacky ride!
