    Easy VPN for a business

    Date: Aug 31 2021

Summary: I was looking for a VPN and found Sophos XG Firewall. Previously we were using a Meraki VPN from a firewall in one of the offices.

I have found it quite tricky to deploy the Sophos Connect configuration via Group Policy (or other methods) which means we have people needing to import the connection manually.

However, once the configuration is imported, we have found Sophos Connect to be reliable and fast.

The only real problem we have come across that gives us headaches, is that some ISP's block some ports. Generally we move the user over to the SSL VPN client (which can be downloaded from the VPN User Portal) but its a bit of a pain.

Still, we Sophos Connect reliable and easy to manage.

Positive: Setup was quick - done in just a few hours.
I like having an app that can be installed on the PC.
Great admin console - can see who is online and manage their sessions.

Negative: Integration with AD is good, but doesn't import groups easily. Hopefully this will change soon as we have to setup users manually.
Can be a bit touchy with some of the ISPs. We have some people who just cannot use Sophos.
MFA not great - couldn't get it working smoothly and caused a lot of headaches.
