Description

RainRule assists farmers in managing their irrigation by utilizing real-time weather information, detailed crop profiles, and a comprehensive soil-water balance at the field level, all derived from the FAO-56 methodology. Users can create maps of their fields, examine irrigation forecasts for the upcoming week, log their watering activities, and receive regular email updates. The system offers recommendations that do not require the installation of additional sensors. It also provides optional integrations with platforms like Rachio, Hunter Hydrawise, OpenSprinkler, or through custom webhooks, allowing for both manual review and automated watering, complete with safeguards related to runtime and precipitation. An API for equipment is available, which can accept readings from sensors and export the boundaries of fields. The subscription plans cater to up to 100 fields across any number of farms and allow for connections to five controllers. The cost is set at $49 monthly or $490 annually, with a 14-day trial available that does not require a credit card and supports up to three fields, making it accessible for new users to experience its benefits firsthand. This comprehensive approach empowers growers to optimize their irrigation strategies effectively.

Description

In 2001, the SURDEV software suite was created through a collaboration among the International Institute for Land Reclamation and Improvement (ILRI), Wageningen Environmental Research, and the Institute of Land and Water Management of the Catholic University of Leuven (ILWM) in Belgium. This suite includes three specialized programs: BASDEV, designed for level basins; BORDEV, tailored for sloping borders; and FURDEV, which focuses on graded furrows. Surface irrigation utilizes the force of gravity to effectively distribute water across agricultural fields. As gravity pulls the water, it traverses the fields from one end to another, allowing it to seep into the soil during its flow. Among the various surface irrigation methods, the most prevalent include level basins (which may or may not have level furrows), sloping borders, and sloping furrows, all aimed at efficiently delivering water. The primary goal of these irrigation techniques is to ensure that crops receive water in precise amounts, at optimal times, and in a consistent manner, which ultimately fosters a uniform crop growth while minimizing water wastage. Furthermore, the careful application of these practices can lead to improved agricultural productivity and sustainability.
