Eighteen years ago, we embarked on the creation of the Easy Trace package, originally envisioning it as a digitization tool tailored for AutoCAD (a vectorizer). However, during its initial showcase at the COMTEC Exhibition, it became evident that there was a significant demand for "paper-to-digit conversion" solutions that extended beyond just CAD applications, particularly for GIS technologies. This distinction quickly emerged, highlighting the difference between software designed for "drawing" and that intended for "cartographic" digitizing. In the wake of this realization, specialized CAD vectorizers started to surface, with several gaining popularity and achieving a solid reputation in the market. Conversely, many entrants in the GIS technology sector found themselves unable to keep pace and eventually exited the competition.
