Description

The release of DocFetcher Pro version 1.15 has just occurred, marking a minor maintenance update that addresses three specific bugs: two crashes related to tar.gz and 7z archive files, along with a minor glitch in the preview pane. For more comprehensive information, you can refer to the changelog. Activity around DocFetcher Pro has been somewhat limited recently, primarily due to the development focus on the upcoming DocFetcher Pro Server. Another contributing factor is that most issues affecting DocFetcher Pro have already been resolved. For those unfamiliar, DocFetcher Pro Server is a specialized version designed to function as an indexing and search server, allowing access for multiple clients remotely via a web browser interface. Unfortunately, there is disappointing news regarding the expected release timeline for DocFetcher Pro Server; it is unlikely to be completed by the end of 2021 as originally planned, which has raised concerns among users eagerly awaiting its launch. As the development team continues to work on these projects, users are encouraged to stay updated on any further announcements.

Description

Windows Search serves as a desktop search solution that provides instant search functionalities for a variety of common file and data types, while also allowing third-party developers to enhance its capabilities for additional file formats. This feature is integrated into Windows 7 and Windows Vista, where it comes pre-activated as a standard component. Acting as a successor to Windows Desktop Search (WDS), the Windows Search Service (WSS) systematically organizes the features extracted from a set of documents. Furthermore, the Windows Search Protocol facilitates communication between a client and a server hosting a WSS, permitting both query execution and administrative management of the indexing server. When it processes files, the WSS conducts an analysis of the documents, extracts pertinent information, and organizes this data in a manner that allows for rapid retrieval of document properties in response to user queries, enhancing overall search efficiency. This seamless integration of functionalities ultimately contributes to a more streamlined user experience when searching for files and data on Windows systems.
