Description

DEPRO is an all-encompassing program designed for torque, drag, and hydraulics analysis in drilling operations. This software aids users in mitigating various risks associated with drilling and completion tasks. By forecasting the limitations in horizontal well lengths based on friction factors, DEPRO offers recommendations for rig specifications and assesses the necessary weight for setting a packer. In terms of hydraulics, it addresses downhole circulating pressures, surge and swab effects, equivalent circulation densities (ECD), bit optimization, hole cleaning, and volumetric displacements. With DEPRO, users can thoroughly investigate downhole hydraulic conditions and pinpoint any potential issues before actual field implementation. Additionally, it provides calculations for torque, drag, and stress, while also supporting soft and stiff string models. The software caters to various operations including drilling, back reaming, rotation off the bottom, and tripping in and out. It also features predictions for sinusoidal and helical buckling, comparisons of field data on workload and surface torque, friction factor sensitivity analysis, and assessments for packer setting, ensuring a comprehensive toolkit for drilling engineers. The all-in-one nature of DEPRO enhances operational safety and efficiency.

Description

A stuck pipe can arise from numerous factors, primarily linked to two main types: mechanical sticking and differential sticking. Mechanical sticking often results from issues such as key seating, under gauge holes, instability of the wellbore, inadequate hole cleaning, and other related factors. In contrast, differential sticking is usually the result of significant contact forces that occur due to low reservoir pressures, high wellbore pressures, or a combination of both, acting over a considerable area of the drill string. These incidents of stuck pipe are generally regarded as among the costliest challenges faced in drilling operations within the petroleum sector, with the expenses associated with resolving them potentially reaching millions of dollars. As a consequence, conducting a thorough analysis of well data to estimate the likelihood of a drill string becoming stuck is increasingly crucial for efficient drilling management. Understanding these risks can help operators implement preventive measures and reduce downtime during drilling operations.
