Description
Copperhead is a collaborative open-source AI platform aimed at aiding hardware teams in the design, validation, and production of circuit boards. By simply detailing a modification or submitting a product brief, users can prompt the agent to make precise edits to actual KiCad files, revise any related documentation, and perform KiCad's built-in checks until all pass successfully. The comprehensive workflow encompasses various stages, including specification, architecture, component selection, schematic design, layout, output generation, firmware creation, and development strategy, ensuring that each phase produces a tangible artifact on disk before progressing. Validation gates check for budget adherence, logical subsystem analysis, datasheet-supported component numbers, ERC-compliant schematics, DRC-compliant layouts, generated Gerber files, firmware source code, and comprehensive bring-up plans. Additionally, Copperhead is equipped to handle modifications for existing boards: users can direct it to a KiCad repository, start the project, and request specific changes. The edits made are targeted adjustments to KiCad source files, ensuring that changes are minimal and easily reviewable while leaving other sections intact. This approach allows for a streamlined revision process that minimizes disruption to the overall project.
Description
Flux is a browser-based electronic design automation (EDA) platform for designing printed circuit boards. It brings schematic capture, PCB layout, simulation, routing, and design rule checks into a shared online workspace.
Its AI hardware design assistant helps turn plain-language circuit requirements into schematics, research components, place parts, route traces, and review designs. Engineers can edit the results, define design constraints, and review the board before manufacturing.
Multiple users can work on the same design in real time, leave comments, and manage project permissions. Reusable community circuits and component libraries help teams start new designs, while live component pricing and availability support part selection.
Flux exports Gerber, bill of materials (BOM), and pick-and-place files. It accepts Altium ASCII and Cadence EDIF schematics and KiCad component libraries. These imports do not include PCB layouts.
Flux is used by electronics engineers, hardware startups, and product teams. A trial includes limited AI usage; after the trial, a paid plan is required to edit or export private projects and use AI. Public-project and community access remain available.
