Description
3D Slicer is an open-source software tool that provides a comprehensive platform for visualizing, processing, segmenting, registering, and analyzing medical and biomedical 3D images and meshes. In addition to these features, it supports the planning and navigation of image-guided medical procedures. Functioning as a desktop application, 3D Slicer tackles complex challenges in image computing, specifically tailored for clinical and biomedical contexts. Furthermore, it acts as a development framework that allows for the swift creation and implementation of custom applications for both research and commercial endeavors. The platform is backed by a vibrant community of skilled users and developers who work together to enhance the field of medical computing. Distributed under a BSD-style license, 3D Slicer places no limitations on its use in both academic and commercial settings, but it is important to note that the software is not FDA-approved, placing the onus on users to ensure they meet relevant regulatory requirements. This collaborative environment fosters innovation and encourages the development of unique solutions to meet the evolving needs of the medical field.
Description
The FDA-cleared D2P® software, in combination with 3D Systems printers, empowers surgeons, radiologists, lab technicians, and device designers to efficiently generate high-quality diagnostic digital 3D models and tangible 3D prints. By importing DICOM images into the D2P standalone modular software, all necessary steps for 3D model segmentation and preparation are streamlined into a single workstation. Designed as a medical device, D2P facilitates pre-operative surgical planning and the creation of 3D-printed anatomical models for diagnostic use. Its distinctive image segmentation toolkit, paired with sophisticated virtual reality (VR) visualization, significantly reduces the time and effort required for clinicians and point-of-care (POC) personnel to produce customized anatomical models for their patients. Furthermore, the digital models generated by D2P can be utilized across various platforms, including 3D printers, VR systems, surgical planning applications, and CAD software, enhancing the overall flexibility and effectiveness of medical practices. This innovative approach not only improves surgical preparation but also fosters collaboration among healthcare professionals by providing them with precise and accessible anatomical representations.
